Milan, 6 October 2017. Toffoletto De Luca Tamajo, the largest Italian law firm specialised in employment law for employers, has joined Parks – Liberi e Uguali , the Italian non-profit organisation, whose members are exclusively employers, with the aim of helping partner companies to understand and attain maximum business opportunities deriving from the development of strategies and good practices that respect diversity, with particular regard to sexual orientation and gender identity (LGBT).

“Diversity within an organisation is a thing of value and knowing how to best manage it is a competitive advantage” – comments Aldo Palumbo , a partner at the firm and a referee for the Parks project. “However, it is essential that the approach taken to diversity is proactive and isn’t limited to mere acceptance. In fact, in situations in which freedom of sexual orientation and gender identity are facilitated to the point that they become the norm, there is a noticeable propensity to problem solving, creativity, and greater openness towards colleagues. We have always promoted an inclusive culture within our firm, without any form of discrimination whatsoever – even indirect – which is reflected in the values expressed by many of our Clients. This is a goal that we have always pursued, including through innovation and talent development, guaranteeing the utmost importance to the training of young professionals, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, physical ability, sexual orientation or gender identity.”

In order to favour gender equality, the Partners commit themselves to the protection of these values, ensuring that they are effectively applied throughout the firm. Beginning with the recruitment process and continuing throughout the career path, each and every professional has the possibility to grow and establish one self as well as strike a work/life balance according to individual needs. This system, which is based exclusively on meritocracy, has created a virtuous mechanism as a result of which female lawyers and partners also achieve professional results surpassing those of their male counterparts.

“We are proud that Toffoletto De Luca Tamajo, the largest law firm specialising in employment and labour law, wants to initiate its own Parks project relating to the promotion of diversity, including those relating to sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace” – commented Igor Suran, Director of Parks. “ It is a strong signal that proves not only the commitment of the firm to creating a work environment that is inclusive for everyone, but also the desire to act as an agent of social change which, in the case of the legal profession, is of extraordinary significance.”

“As lawyers specialising in employment law, we often assist companies and entities in drafting their diversity policies”, added Donatella Cungi , Partner at the firm and a referee for the Parks project together with Palumbo. “These policies bring about true inclusion and are really effective only if they are applied ‘top down’, if they are well integrated into the company’s foundations and if the organisation itself is open to change. The world, whether we’re talking about that of work or society, will only change when people are open to valuing that which they really are and organisations understand that creating and managing diversity represents a real competitive advantage. Accepting and safeguarding diversity is not only a question of ethics but also means acting for the cultural and economic interest of the company”.

By becoming a member of Parks, the Firm joins an impressive community of companies and institutions that have chosen to take on an active role in the development of a culture that values and supports diversity.
